POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Personal Trainer at Kandiyohi County Area Family YMCA provides coordinated, targeted, quality training and maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
  • Design safe and effective personal training programs for individual clients, adapting the strength training program to each person’s specific needs and abilities.

  • Instruct members in the strength training principles, training procedures, and exercise techniques.

  • Teach members the proper and preferred use of all the strength training equipment.

  • Inform members of new information regarding strength training safety and effectiveness.

  • Provide individual supervision and reinforcement during members’ training sessions.

  • Promote Personal Training through personal example and member interaction.

  • Help maintain a neat, clean and pleasant environment on the Wellness floor.

  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and participates in appropriate workshops.

  • Assume other duties, responsibilities and projects identified as needed by the employee and approved and/or assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Personal trainer certification such as American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA) or National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

  • CPR/AED/BFA certification within first 30 days of employment.

  • Additional trainings as required by the position.

  • Previous experience providing instructions, training others or other related experience preferred.

  • Excellent customer service skills and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to teach effectively in different learning environments.

  • Knowledge of the ability to demonstrate exercise equipment.
