jack-o-lantern fruit cups

These delicious fruit cups are an excellent healthy alternative to traditional Halloween treats! You and your child(ren) will have a blast creating your very own jack-o-lanterns to enjoy.

Ingredients:

For the jack-o-lantern:
  • Large oranges (1 per person)
  • Black Edible Marker (Find some here.)
For the fruit salad:

Note: This is a customizable recipe. Let your child choose their favorite fruits to put in the salad!

  • 1 cup grapes
  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and quartered
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks
  • 1 cup mandarin oranges
  • 1 cup diced apples
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional)

1. Prepare the Oranges

  • Cut the top 1/4 off of each orange and set aside. These will be the "lids" for your Jack-o'-Lanterns.

  • Using a spoon, carefully scoop out the orange flesh from inside the oranges, creating hollowed-out orange cups. Save the scooped-out orange for the fruit salad.

  • Using the edible food marker, have your child decorate the scooped-out oranges to look like jack-o-lantern faces.

 2. Make the Fruit Salad

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the grapes, strawberries, pineapple chunks, mandarin orange segments, and diced apples

  • If you want to add a bit of sweetness, drizzle honey over the fruit and gently toss it together.

3. Fill the Jack-O-Lanterns

  • Fill each hollowed-out orange with the prepared fruit salad. Make sure not to overfill; leave a little room for the "lid" to sit comfortably on top.

4. Place the Lids

  • Put the "lid" back on each orange, securing it in place to create your Jack-o'-Lantern fruit cups.

5. Serve and Enjoy:

  • Your Jack-o'-Lantern Fruit Cups are now ready to be enjoyed. They make a delightful and healthy Halloween treat that both parents and children can savor.
